Health Coaching:
Developing Successful Habits
If goals are the finish line, then motivation is just the start.
It's the habits that create the journey.
Dr. Carol Connick
If you set your goal such as running a race, what do you need to succeed?
1. There must be desire. There must be some purpose, some acheivement, something that will be worthwhile. The desire must be yours - no one elses.
2. You must arm yourself with the belief that it can be done.
3. What course do you want to run? You must decide if you simply want to run the race or win the race. Will you take a hard, fast direct route, or meander thru and pace yourself. You must have clear vision.
4. To really be successful, you should arm yourself with knowledge about the course, the dangers as well as the advantage points. Often one seeks mentors, trainers, or other equipment to help support, guide and train.
5. At some point you just have to get in the race and correct along the way. Just simply do it!
6. To be effective, one should monitor progress, checking to see if one is still on right course, correcting along the way as needed.
7. Don't forget to celebrate along the way, not just at the very end! Use that celebration to raise the energy or carry the momentum.
8. Reflect on the journey. What have you acheived? Who have you become thru this journey? Where can you apply this knowledge and success to your life - or to others around you?
How much would you accomplish if you had a coach to guide, support, encourage and direct you?
A coach is not a drill sergeant. A coach is someone who holds you accountable, reminds you of your purpose, values and helps you take the baby step necessary to acheive whatever you set your mind and intention to.
Even Tiger Woods had a coach! In fact, he had up to three coaches at the height of his golfing career!
”When training is combined with coaching, individuals increased their productivity by an average of 88% as compared to 22% with training alone.”
